We are an interfaith-based grassroots organization that comes together
to build bridges across the city of Louisville. Our aim is to stamp out violence in our city by unifying and collaborating with all neighborhoods to achieve safety for all, no matter where you live. We seek to eradicate violent crime, especially gun violence in West Louisville. Additionally, we endeavor to work against the inequities found in many West Louisville communities. |
From the beginning |
Where we are now |
In 2016, a small group of committed individuals from St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church felt the call to work against the distress overcoming many in the community. Too many were dying; too many feared for their lives; gun violence pervaded the West Louisville neighborhoods; gangs made many feel unsafe to let their children play out of doors.
Our of the despair grew Hands Across Louisville. People from across the city came together to join hands across Broadway to stand together against violence. Many participated, coming from all areas of the city. |
In 2018, the group changed its name to Louisville United to End Violence, to better highlight the focus of the group. We also agreed to operate under the nonprofit umbrella of the Center for Transformative Action (809 South 4th Street, Louisville), and that we would strive to expand our interfaith membership. Finally, we now have plans to build community awareness even more broadly than before. We invite anyone and everyone from any faith tradition, from any Louisville community, from any caring organization, to join with us.
Pray with people of all religions to bring peace to our neighborhoods. Join hands to realize our prayers. Participate in the transformative actions that are happening in West Louisville. Meet the caring people who are choosing to make a difference. Go to the Contact Us page to sign up. |
Our mission is to collaboratively make a difference in our community by bringing all neighborhoods in the city together. On one day, every year we will stand hand-in-hand in solidarity to oppose the crime and violence around us.
Throughout the year, we will continue to inspire others through service. Reaffirmed 3.31.2018 |
